Everyone has a favourite song. Maybe some of you out there cannot limit your choice to only one but you may have a song that causes a physical or emotionally response every time you hear it.
With me, my taste in music is so eclectic that I have a favourite song for rock, one for grime etc. so I can't possibly pick one to sum up my entire listening experience. However, I think it is important to sit back sometimes, get a little bit deep and look at the songs that make your spine tingle.
I spoke to a couple of the readers of our site and team members and asked them for their favourite songs. I know you probably don't care about anyone else's opinion, but I think it will allow you to reflect and really give props to those artists that produce music that can hit you right in your centre.
Yas' favourite song has an emotional reaction with her, so whenever she hears the song it fills her with happiness. This is important to know, as a brief 3 minutes of listening to music can change your entire mood. Sometimes it isn't an active thing, like when you feel down and you have your music on shuffle and a song crops up that makes you look at things differently. Or maybe you know exactly what song to put on to pick yourself up from previous experiences. For me, this song is Either Way by The Twang, as the whole song is about having a change of feeling and making sure to let the ones you love know. It has such a gorgeous melody and the lyrics really make you step back and look at what matters.
Georgie's song reminds her of being out with her mates and just generally having a laugh. This makes total sense, as the song would bring back fond memories of going out to pubs or whatever and everyone joining in to sing the song out of pitch. From personal experience Mr Brightside is one of those songs that everyone knows and I can guarantee that if I am out in a club that song will come on. Shut Up by Stormzy is my going out song as when I hear the intro, no matter where I am, I stop dead in my tracks and start rapping along just like every sane person around me.
Sometimes a song means so much because of the artist. In Leanna's case, the song was heard at a gig of a much-loved band and therefore strikes a chord in her for how memorable the performance was. Getting to see your favourite artists is life-changing, as it can make or break your perceptions of their talent and if it makes it, it's unforgettable. Especially if you get to see them with your best mates. When I got to see my favourite band of all time, The Stone Roses, I was beside myself with excitement and did not know what to expect from the musical greats. Not only did they deliver a once in a lifetime performance, they left me with a 10/10 memory and proved my love for them to be warranted. The song that takes me straight back to that night is Made Of Stone as at that exact moment it turned to dusk and started to rain like some romcom film and the performance was effortless.
I invite you to think about your favourite songs and why. How is it possible that some artists can write a song that you believe is just for you and that can cause a physical reaction when you hear it? Some people have way too much power in their hands!
