Netflix is killing it with their numerous 'original series' being aired on their online streaming platform. So lets take a look at the 'best of the best' Netflix has to offer.

It has been becoming pretty obvious that television is struggling to keep up with the likes of online platforms such as Netflix. Back in 2016 The Guardian reported "Is the golden age of television coming to an end?". Some people question whether this is a good or a bad thing, in my eyes it is definitely a good thing.

Since 2012 Netflix has been increasing their fan base with their original series. 'Lillyhammer' was the first program that showed us what Netflix had to offer, most were not disappointed rating the show four stars.

Now five years has past, Netflix is stronger than ever introducing different genres of original programming.

So lets celebrate Netflix success! 5 Netflix original series that are rated 5 stars. They are a MUST see.

5. The Crown

The Crown takes us through the journey of Queen Elizabeth II becoming the Queen of England. Her father King George VI is dying and Winston Churchill will become Prime minister for the second time. Soon Britain will be in Elizabeth's young hands.

Rated five stars, The Crown is a great drama that entails the struggles of being part of the royal family. With themes of love, betrayal and responsibility The Crown is a must see drama. As it is based on the real Queen Elizabeth II, the series does have some truth behind it. You might just learn something new about the royal family.

The cast show cases the likes of Claire Foy and Matt Smith as Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip.

Five star rating review

"Absolutely superb! The detail that has gone into this show is just fantastic- it totally transports you back to the 30's/40's/50's"

4. A series of unfortunate events

The Baudelaire children have just lost their parents to a dreadful house fire. With a large fortune in their name, Count Olaf will do anything to get his hands on their fortune. The series takes us through the children's journey of moving from one guardian to another due to the interference of Count Olaf and his theatrical group.

OK so this series hasn't reached the five star rating yet, but it is getting there as it is already rated four and a half stars. The series has not long aired on Netflix but I am pretty certain once people realize its accuracy to the original story, they wont be able to get enough of it. This program is definitely "witty" and "imaginative", it transports you to another world just like a good book can. Not forgetting that Neil Patrick Harris kills it at being Count Olaf, giving Jim Carey a run for his money.

5 star review

"Very happy with this series, being a big fan of the books and the film adaption, this series definitely does the books justice"

3. The Get down

The get down focuses on the music scene in the Bronx, New York in the 70's. The rise of hip hop and disco are commencing. Even though hip hop is attached to the stigma of criminals and graffiti vandalism. A group of friends try to become successful hip hop artists like their idol Grand master flash who mentors them along the way. On the other hand another group of friends become successful disco singers with the help of a drug addicted record producer.

This gritty American drama will get you 'getting down' to the music. With catchy songs and an immense story line, this drama has everything from love and music to violence and politics.

Just to let you know, you can download the series album from Itunes. Trust me, you will want the album.

Five star rating review

"Great series, saw the advert on YouTube before something else i was watching and instantly logged in to see the fuss. Great story, great music and I'm looking for the soundtrack now!"

2. Black Mirror

Black Mirror is a British science fiction drama that centers around "dark" and "satirical" themes involving modern society. It is a series of multiple stories usually set in the future or a time where technology is at its most advanced. The stories involve the effects technology may have on people in the future from advances in smart phones to AI robots.

The unusual themes and mind boggling story lines of Black Mirror will get you thinking "what if" about the future. This program explores themes never seen before in science fiction dramas, its a MUST see if you are into psychological stuff too.

The mundane lives of the main characters in each episode make it even more believable that we could be living in a f**ked up society like the ones they portray.

Five star rating review

"Great show. A frightening twist on reality that you can easily see coming true."

1. Stranger things

Stranger things is a science fiction horror set in Hawkins, Indiana in the 1980's. A group of friends go searching for their best friend who went missing in strange circumstances. Convinced he is still alive the group of children venture out into the unknown to go and find him. Whilst on their journey they come across the strange telepathic girl called Eleven, who may be able to help them. Strange events and paranormal happenings keep occurring in the town and the science minded children are eager to find out what is going on.

Yes, that is right my top two favorite Netflix originals rated five stars are science fiction series. But who doesn't love a show that f**cks with your head? If you havent heard of Stranger Things, you must have been living under a rock for the past year.

With themes of child abuse, new found love and the paranormal this series will make you jump and cry with happiness all in the same episode.

Stranger things is gripping, scary and most of all strange. People fell in love with the series almost instantly and now season two could possibly be the most anticipated series ever.

Five star rating review:

"The lovechild of Speilberg, Chronenberg, Landis and Carpenter. NF knows how to commission a series! I loved every second of this and for retro scifi it was perfection. This alone justifies the whole year of subscription and I do hope they make a second series. Fantastic!"
