BREAKING NEWS- The fashion industry is breaking its own standards.

Social media has become today's fastest way to keep up to date with happenings around the world, but how well is the fashion industry coping with voice of generation 'Y''s wants and needs through social media and is it starting to adapt to our needs.

With the fashion industry holding some of the worlds most influential people, they are putting this to good use in 2017 and are using their voices to inform the younger generation through the use of fashion. And, so I wanted to look further into how the fashion industry is changing to create a more acceptable and diverse industry.

The first thing that made us stop and hope that 2017 would break more of its own standards was Parisian brand 'Vetements' Fall 2017 Men's Show, which consisted of a wide range of 'normal' people modelling the collection.

Based upon the theme 'people you see inside an airport terminal', the casting was open to any age, nationality, size and gender, making for a raw and real show. The brands head designer Demna Gvasalia wanted to prove the every day person can model and it worked.

Vetements started off the year with a nice sentiment that you don't need to be the industry's typical standard to wear what you want.

Next was Kanye West's Yeezy season 5 presentation, whom cast hijabi model Halima Aden to walk his show. With this being a rare occurrence even in 2017, Aden is now the talk of fashion week and one to look out for in the future.

Aden told Vogue magazine 'my goal is to send a message to Muslim women and young women everywhere that it's okay to break stereotypes and be yourself'.

Kanye West is allowing girls the opportunity to be themselves for his presentations as well as breaking boundaries. Helima Aden is now walking for more shows throughout the fashion season and is an icon to girls all around the world.

Here is just a small look at how social media reacted to Aden rocking a hijab for Yeezy season 5...

The next happy-surprise for 2017 is Teen Vogue's latest transformation. The teen fashion magazine has been rebuffed to hold a bolder approach, focusing on subjects such as politics and feminism.

The magazine's editor Elaine Welteroth stated 'Listen, I know people are asking, ‘Why would a teen want a magazine in 2016?’ and is doing something about it'. And with the genius idea of mixing it within a fashion magazine, teaching girls about these subjects from a young age will hopefully create a generation of women talking about politics and not being scared to do so.

Social media exploded with delight over Teen Vogues new venture and many are hoping Vogue will follow in it's footsteps.

And the most recent is Lili-Rose Depp walking with Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel's couture fall/winter 2017 show. Lily-Rose Depp is only a petite 5 foot 2 inches, breaking the industries height restrictions of 5 foot 8 inches or over. This is just another small step in the right direction, showing fashion can be for everyone.

Let's hope 2017 continues to be the year fashion broke it's own standards and made history.
